What Should I Be Looking For in a smart TV?

There is a huge range of smart TVs on the market nowadays, with each model offering its own unique combination of technologies and features.

Finding the right smart TV for your needs and budget requires a little research. With so many different options available and such a wide price range to consider, it’s important to take your time and choose the right smart TV for your needs.

When you’re buying a new smart TV, it’s important to consider how you will be mostly using your new TV.

While there are some great all-rounders out there, if you will be primarily watching sports versus movies, you might prefer a particular model for your needs. To ensure you make the right choice, it’s important that you focus on a few key smart TV components and features so that you choose a TV that you will be happy with for many years to come.

Let’s take a closer look at a few important features you need to pay attention to when you are looking for a new smart TV.

Check The Screen Resolution

The resolution of the smart TV screen relates to how sharp the TV picture will be, typically listed in terms of horizontal lines of pixels. Ultra HD TVs, also referred to as 4K, are quickly becoming the first choice for many consumers, offering four times as many pixels as their HDTV counterparts. For many viewers, full HD 1080p, is adequate, providing an excellent viewing experience. However, with 4K smart TVs becoming more affordable and popular, you can future proof your purchase by opting for an ultra HD TV.

High Dynamic Range (HDR)

If you decide to go with a 4K TV set, you will come across models with High Dynamic Range (HDR) capacity. While this might sound confusing, what it basically means is that your Ultra HD TV will have improved contrast levels, more brightness and it can deliver more colours. When you are shopping for a new TV, keep an eye out for Ultra HD Premium models or HDR10. HDR standards are not yet uniformed, so be sure to choose a format that is growing in popularity for best results.

The Refresh Rate

To get the very best viewing experience possible, you need a smart TV with a high refresh rate. The Refresh Rate is usually measured in Hertz (Hz) and is used to measure how many times the picture on the screen is refreshed, per second. Typically, the average refresh time for modern smart TVs is 60hz. However, even at this rate, if you are watching a fast-moving scene, some objects could appear blurry. Choosing a refresh rate of at least 120 Hz is recommended.

Connections And Ports

After spending time researching and viewing different TVs, the last thing you want is to finally buy one and bring it home to find it does not have enough connections or HDMI ports. For example, if you use your TV to play video games, you have a sound system connected and a digital TV decoder, you will need access to at least three ports. Before you finalise your purchase, be sure that you assess how many connections and HDMI ports you will need.

Find The Perfect smart TV For Your Space And Needs

Ultimately, you want to be sure that your new smart TV provides you with the best viewing experience for your budget and that it will stand the test of time. Be sure to properly assess your space to find a smart TV that will fit it well. Taking the time to consider your needs before you finalise your purchase will help to ensure that you choose a smart TV that will serve you well for many years to come.
